The Mimikri camouflage pattern was a late-war German innovation in World War I, designed to conceal military equipment and personnel using bold, disruptive shapes and earthy tones.
It was officially ordered by General Erich Ludendorff on July 7, 1918, to be applied to steel helmets, cannons, mortars, machine guns, ammunition boxes, gas mask containers, and body armor.
The term "Mimikri" comes from the German word for "mimicry," reflecting its goal of blending into natural surroundings.
